Over the past few years, we’ve explored Maui, HI. What we love most about this paradise is that this island has something for everyone. Whether you’re drawn to outdoor adventures (e.g. hiking through bamboo forests, snorkeling in crystal-clear coves, or swimming under waterfalls) or prefer creative outlets (browsing local art shops, savoring fresh island cuisine, or enjoying a sunset), Maui invites you to get outdoors, slow down, and experience Hawaiian island vibes.
Some of these adventures are world-famous, while others are hidden gems. We’ve done every one ourselves – some multiple times! Here’s our curated list of must-do adventures on Maui:
1. Explore Haleakalā National Park
Haleakalā is a place where the island reveals its extremes from dense, green rainforest to vast volcanic heights. On the eastern side, hike the Pipiwai Trail (4 miles) through a massive bamboo forest to a Waimoku Falls. Then, on the opposite end of the park, stand above the clouds at the summit of a dormant volcano and feel like you’re on the edge of the Earth.

2. Drive The Road to Hāna
This legendary drive winds along waterfalls, cliffside views, lush rainforests, and hidden beaches. With over 600 curves and 50+ one-lane bridges, it’s the journey, not the destination, that matters.
Pro Tip: Must see stops include Twin Falls, Ke‘anae Peninsula, Waiʻānapanapa State Park (Black Sand Beach), and Hamoa Beach. Consider staying the night in Hāna if you want to take your time.

3. Wander Among Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees
Just off the Road to Hāna, at Ke‘ānae Arboretum, rainbow eucalyptus trees are like something out of a dream. The trunks are painted in streaks of electric green, orange, maroon, and purple. As the bark peels away in strips, new colors emerge, creating a living work of art that changes with time and rain.

4. Snorkel Molokini Crater
Molokini is a crescent-shaped volcanic crater surrounded by protected reefs. You will find some of the clearest water in Hawaii and will likely be able to spot tropical fish, eels, and maybe even a sea turtle. Pacific Whale Foundation, a nonprofit that supports marine conservation, runs boat tours out of Maʻalaea Harbor to snorkel Molokini Crater.
Pro Tip: Early morning tours have calmer water. Reef-safe sunscreen is a must.

5. Dine at Māma’s Fish House
After a full day of exploring, treat yourself to a meal at Māma’s. This restaurant is a splurge, but the views, fresh fish, and beachfront setting make this a culinary experience worth every bite.
Pro Tip: Book months in advance! If you don’t have a reservation, try strolling in during off hours (like 2pm) for a late lunch/early dinner.

6. Shop Karen Lei’s Gallery
This gallery showcases original artwork from local Maui artists — from stunning landscape photography and ocean-inspired paintings to intricate jewelry, ceramics, and mixed media pieces. Every item is curated with intention and often reflects themes of island life, environmental connection, and aloha spirit.

7. Visit Hoʻokipa Lookout
Pull off the highway and let the ocean put on a show. Watch surfers tackle world-famous waves from a cliffside perch or walk down the path down to the beach. This is the kind of place where the power of the ocean leaves you breathless, humbles you, and reminds you just how beautiful the world can be.

8. Hike Makamakaʻole Stream Trail
For a lush, jungle adventure that feels worlds away from Maui’s beaches, this West Maui hike is a hidden gem. The Makamakaʻole Trail, also known as the “13 Crossings Trail,” winds through the rainforest and crosses a cool stream multiple times.
Pro Tip: Be safe climbing the rope to the second waterfall. Don’t leave valuables in your car—this area is a hotspot for break-ins.

9. Snorkel Kahekili Beach Park
Perfect snorkeling for beginners, with calm waters and abundant marine life like eels, tropical fish, and sea turtles! This beach has everything you need for a full day of fun and relaxation: free parking, restrooms, grassy picnic areas, outdoor showers, and even a scenic path that leads to beachfront restaurants.

Summary
From snorkeling in volcanic craters to driving jungle-lined highways, Maui offers unforgettable experiences at every turn. Whether you’re swimming alongside sea turtles or looking above the clouds at Haleakalā, every adventure here invites you to slow down and connect with nature, with loved ones, and with yourself. We hope this list of adventures helps you plan your Maui adventure.
